Most of Czech national team suited up for an exhibition game against a select team from participants in the annual Ales Hrebesky Memorial, held in Prague at the end of April. There was a guy plaing in a jersey named Benesch. But he certainly was not the best scorer of the NLL Ryan Benesch...
The game was the final chance for players to impress head coach Jim
Veltman an his staff. During the game, the crowd noticed one player
wearing Benesch on the back, informed ilindoor.com. The best
scorer of NLL is not a member of Canadian team; does he
"return" back to his old country?
“I saw the same jersey and thought oh, that’s kind of cool,”
Veltman told ilindoor.com. “But that guy didn’t play as good as the
Ryan Benesch we know. He didn’t have quite the same hands,” he
added.
The jersey had Benesch’s name added to the back because the Swarm
sniper had originally agreed to play for the Czechs but has had to
decline the opportunity.
Veltman says it the problem was the same as with Czech goalie Mike
Poulin. “These guys take a lot of time off work for the NLL season
and to ask them to take another 10 days for the tournament is just
too much.”
“Unfortunately I had to tell them at the last minute that I wasn’t
going to be able to make it,” Benesch confirmed. “They might have
made that jersey for me already, cause I did tell them that I was
going to play for them. It’s too bad. It would be nice to go there.
I can’t get the time off work.”
